Mereworth near Maidstone
Set in the beautiful countryside of Mereworth, near Maidstone, this substantial farmhouse extension was completed over the course of more than a year, bringing together complex construction, traditional materials and high-quality craftsmanship, while retaining the character and charm that made the original farmhouse so distinctive.
Working alongside the clients and project architect Andrew Clague of James Clague Architects, we delivered the project in line with the architectural design and the clients’ vision. Our role was to turn the detailed plans and specifications into reality, carefully connecting the new extension with the existing farmhouse.
The extension features a carefully considered palette of Kentish ragstone, heritage brick, timber and Kent peg tiles. We installed and finished each element with close attention to detail, complementing the appearance of the farmhouse while meeting the practical demands of a modern home.
One of the project’s standout features is the striking roof lantern, positioned above the bespoke staircase. Carefully engineered and integrated into the structure, it fills the heart of the extension with natural light and creates a distinctive architectural focal point.
Over more than a year on site, we managed and coordinated every stage of construction, bringing together the architect’s design, the clients’ choices and the work of specialist trades. The completed extension reflects the quality of the original design, delivered through skilled workmanship, careful coordination and consistent attention to detail.
Working closely with the clients and with Andrew Clague of James Clague Architects, we are using natural materials (ragstone, wood, heritage bricks and Kent peg tiles) whilst also adding those areas of excitement and comfort.
A key design feature is a roof lantern placed above the bespoke staircase. An engineering achievement we are proud to have helped bring to reality.
